Publication Agreement for The Brussels Review

1. Introduction

Welcome to The Brussels Review (“TBR”). By submitting your work to TBR, you agree to be bound by this Publication Agreement and our Privacy Policy. Our editorial mission centers on literary and artistic excellence; submissions are evaluated on craft, insight, voice, and merit, not on personal identity categories.

2. Submission Obligations

2.1 Accuracy and Originality: You agree that all information provided with your submission is true, accurate, and complete.

2.2 Professional Representation: Submissions must be presented as serious artistic or literary work. You represent to us that the work is original, unpublished, and is your own creation.

2.3 Editorial Principles: TBR does not consider personal identity traits (including but not limited to sexuality, disability status, gender identity, ethnic background, or pronoun sets) as criteria for publication. Such details may be included in your work if they are materially relevant to its meaning; they are not grounds for preferential consideration outside that context.

3. Editorial Review

3.1 Evaluation Criteria: All submissions are reviewed according to artistic quality, intellectual substance, and formal accomplishment. TBR prioritizes writing that stands on its own, free from performative credentialing or identity checklists. (The Brussels Review)

3.2 Editorial Discretion: TBR retains full editorial discretion to accept, reject, edit, or decline any submission. Acceptance is not guaranteed.

4. Intellectual Property and Rights

4.1 Ownership: You retain all intellectual property rights in your work.

4.2 License to Publish: By submitting, you grant TBR a non-exclusive, royalty-free license to publish, distribute, and archive your work in print and digital formats.

4.3 First Serial Rights: You grant TBR the right of first publication for six months; rights revert to you thereafter, subject to ongoing display in available archives.

5. Author Bios and Attribution

5.1 Professional Bios: TBR will publish author bios based on professional qualifications and material relevance to the submission. Personal identity markers unrelated to authorial practice will not be foregrounded.

5.2 Author Control: You may provide an optional bio; TBR reserves the right to determine final bio format to align with editorial values.

6. Content Standards

6.1 Lawful Content: Submissions must not violate applicable law or contain unlawful, defamatory, threatening, or harmful material.

6.2 Respect for Rights: You warrant that the submission does not infringe on any third-party rights.

7. Compliance with Laws

You agree not to use TBR to publish content that violates any legal or regulatory standards.

8. Disclaimer of Liability

TBR is not liable for any loss, inaccuracy, or failure to publish any work for any reason.

9. Amendments

TBR may modify this Publication Agreement at any time by posting changes on this site. Continued submissions indicate acceptance of updates.

10. Governing Law

This Agreement is governed by the laws of the jurisdiction in which The Brussels Review operates, and disputes will be adjudicated accordingly.

11. Acceptance

By submitting your work, you affirm that you have read and agree to this Publication Agreement in full.
