This morning on a walk I look
in vain for colorful marigolds,
orchids in my favorite park,
but withering July heat wilts

their beauty before my eyes.
Bereft after my trek, I go home,
look at a mirror, examine
all the blemishes, wrinkles,

age-ravaged markers on my skin,
lament my own faded beauty,
long for the fresh-faced teenager.
in faded yearbook pictures.
