I woke this morning in our room,
Leaving a dream for the soft dawn
Seeping through the curtain crack.
You were already awake,
Seated on your edge of the bed,
With your back to me.
Its smooth contours sculpted
In gentle light and shadow.
I am this close to your perfection.
Torso pinched at the waist like a cello.
The rising of your ribs as you breathe,
The arching of your spine
As you lift your arms and stretch,
Raising your chin to face heaven,
Extending your neck
With the grace of a bird in flight.
I am this close.
